Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the act of inserting tiny, sterile needles into specific points on the body.   A needle inserted into one part of the body may affect a different part of the body and help with pain, digestive issues, menstrual pain, sleep or to balance emotions.
After the needles are inserted, you will generally feel very calm, many people even fall asleep on the table.  During this time, your nervous system will down regulate from Fight or Flight to Rest and Digest, this allows your body to reset and leaves you feeling calm and also energized.
Cupping

Cupping is a special kind of awesome.  As an add on to an acupuncture session, cupping feels amazing.  Glass cups are placed on the body and create a vacuum, pulling the skin and muscle layer into the cup.  This vacuum pulls old blood out of the muscles so fresh, healthy blood can rush in.  Cupping is fantastic for adhesions, sore muscles, stubborn pain and post work out. Its like an hour deep tissue massage in about 10 minutes!
Herbal medicine

Chinese herbal medicine involves creating individualized herbal formulas to help augment and assist an acupuncture treatment. Taking herbs will help your treatment stick as well as continue to move and nourish your Qi and blood throughout the week.
Herbs come in several forms, as a powder, in pill form and as a tincture.   We recommend having some herbs in your first aid kit to help fight off colds before they take hold and also some in your night table to help if you wake up at night after overindulging.
What to expect
Please make sure that you have eaten and wear clothing that allows access to your knees, elbows, stomach and any area that has discomfort.
Your first visit will be about 90 minutes.  During this visit we get to know each other and do a thorough medical intake including your medical history.  After we are done talking you will lay on the acupuncture table and I will feel your pulses and look at your tongue.  This helps me to diagnose the root of your issues and guides the treatment.  At this point, I will have you get into position, either laying face down or up, ask that you pull your pant legs up to your knees and make sure you are comfortable.  Once you are settled, I will insert between 4 and 15 thin, sterile, single use needles into your skin.  You may have a feeling of heaviness, relaxation or a slight achy feeling.  All of these are normal responses.  I will then dim the lights and leave you to rest for 20-30 minutes.  I am very near, so if you feel any discomfort or anxiety, just give a shout and I will appear.  After your treatment, we may do some cupping or gua sha or range of motion stretches depending on your presentation.

Follow up appointments are about 50 min and include a short check in on how you are feeling, an acupuncture treatment and any cupping or gua sha that your case requires.
